God is worthy to recieve all glory, honor, and power (Revelation 4:11). He has began a good work in men according to His good pleasure (Philippians 1:6, 2:13) and their single goal is to bring glory to His name.(1 Corinthians 10:31).
“There is nothing which is so wrong, and so utterly false, as to fail to see the primary importance of true doctrine. Looking back over my experience as a pastor for some thirty-four years, I can testify without the slightest hesitation that the people I have found most frequently in trouble in their spiritual experience have been those who have lacked understanding. You cannot divorce these things.”
Martin Loyd-Jones
If... I find taught in one part of the Bible that everything is fore-ordained, that is true; and if I find, in another scripture, that man is responsible for all his actions, that is true; and it is only my folly that leads me to imagine that these two truths can ever contradict each other.
An Armenian arguing with a Calvinist remarked, "If I believed your doctrine and were sure that I was a converted man, I would take my fill of sin." "How much sin," replied the godly Calvinist, "Do you think it would take to fill a true Christian to his own satisfaction?" Here he hit the nail on the head. "How can we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?" A truly converted person hates sin with all His heart, and even if he could sin without suffering for it, it would be misery enough to him to sin at all.
Thou didst seek us when we sought Thee not;didst seek us indeed that we might seek Thee …God chooses us, not because we believe, but that we may believe.
If you don't have the meaning of scripture, you do not have the word of God at all.

I use a system called "planned neglect": I plan to neglect everything until my study is done.

Stories have emotional impact, but they are lightweight compared with scripture.

You have to believe the power of God's Word will be more effective than any human drama or communication gimmick. Nothing is as dramatic as the explosion of truth on the mind of a believer through powerful preaching.
John MacArthur
The best illustrations are those taken from the Bible itself.

It is... wrong when a preacher thinks the best way to gain a hearing is to sprinkle the message with appealing anecdotes, stories, or humor. A man who cannot get attention without these things...does not know what it means to use the sword of the Spirit.
Iain Murray
